Overheard in Parliament this week

Sir Nicholas Soames asking someone where the Norman Shaw building was. Sir Nicholas has been an MP for 25 years. David Cameron's office is in Norman Shaw. So is George Osborne's. Sir Nick is obviously a frequent visitor.

Nick these days is rather more "bon viveur" than front line politico is he not?

I think he regards himself as an elder statesman ('Churchill's grandson, don't you know'). I have blogged about his contributions to parliamentary debates on here before. He said 'balls' to a suggestion that women made better use of microfinance than men, and then claimed he'd said 'nonsense'. Of course to him, microfinance probably means being down to your last million.
