Advertising the army

I visited Connexions, the youth service, today and was asked at one point what I thought about the NUT's desire to ban the army from school careers events. I think the armed forces are as legitimate a career choice as anything else, and with the current involvement of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan it's unlikely any young person would be under any false illusions as to what signing up might entail. But I'm not at all comfortable with the idea of 16 year olds being allowed to join up anyway. Let the army visit schools by all means, but raise the recruitment age to 18.
